The Gehl Gathering

Context
Gehl enjoyed a 40% growth of its global staff in the years following the Pandemic. In the summer of 2023, the 145 members of the networked organization convened for ‘The Gehl Gathering:’ a three day event in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Project Goals
The purpose of The Gathering was three-fold: to connect, align, and inspire the Gehl community in order to build stronger internal relationships, invest in greater alignment of brand messaging and culture, and become a more future-fit company.
Social Program
Full day of 14 different city tours, led by Gehl’s in-house urban experts, ending with a casual dinner at Reffen, Copenhagen’s global street food venue
Organizational participation in the Copenhagen Pride parade under the banner ‘Architects Together’
18 dinners hosted by Gehl staff at their homes
Catered dinner, company karaoke, and DJ’d dance party

Conference Program
Two days of speakers, workshops, and thematic breakouts including but not limited to:
Gehl’s ‘State of the Union’ address from CEO Helle Søholt; ‘Equity in Context’ panel discussion; net-zero climate workshops; ‘Healthy Neighborhood’ breakouts, and hands-on activities focused on AI and the digital future of our cities
Guest speakers including but not limited to: Paul Bennett, IDEO’s former Chief Creative Officer; Poornima Luthra, DEI expert; Camilla Frederiksen, former Strategy Director at e-types
Performance: ‘What is the value of a bird’s song?'
Outcomes
The Gathering was the largest internal event in Gehl history, convening 145 people from across the globe, six invited guest speakers, as well as a renowned performance artist and climate activist for three days of social and conference programming.
When asked the following questions ‘do you feel more or less connected/aligned/inspired after the Gathering?’ posed in a survey after the event,
97% of respondents responded that they felt more connected
63% of respondents responded that they felt more aligned
90% of respondents responded that they felt more inspired
